here is 'the other side?' Is it possible to go there in my present state
of existence? Can I communicate with others? These are
questions I consider when often, perhaps you may have considered them as
well.
If we revisit Thomas Edison's thoughts, mentioned earlier, concerning
the construction of a communication device of some rarefied
variety, it must have sounded rather absurd in his lifetime. But
with advances over the years we have reached a point where most people
would agree, using our
current scientific understanding, that 'the other side' does truly exist.
Doesn't this prove Edison was on the right track? Could there be a
way to reach beyond what we believe is our current reality? Current science is exploring subjects such as from where do we originate and where do we go when our bodies cease to function. I believe many in this field are approaching answers, some without even realizing it, but are concerned about voicing findings or opinions for fear of peer ridicule. Some may say that I am twisting scientific fact to validate my own beliefs. And in reply I answer that all things are inter-connected. You cannot refuse to apply science to controversial topics, or what may be considered fringe ideas, simply because scientific findings may challenge your belief system. Or perhaps your previous view of reality may be questioned. I believe that when looking for an answer one should use all the information available to advance the effort in finding the solution. I fully realize that the field of research concerning hauntings and paranormal investigation is populated by quackery, unscientific procedures, and eccentric characters. But the same problems that surround paranormal investigation can be laid upon the doorstep of medicine as well. Keep in mind this does not stop people from going to doctors. Why? Simply because we do not judge an entire field based upon the behaviors of a few. While in the case of paranormal investigation there may be more than a few the same rule should apply. My way of approaching paranormal investigation involves documenting contact with the other side as well as noting consistent correct predictions concerning the location of the haunting phenomena. Haunting evidence of course will vary from that of a very high quality to that which provides little evidence to document. It has occurred to me that this investigation of phenomena of hauntings should be approached in the same way a serial killer is tracked. Instead of a one location, one event type of investigation that has gone on for years, why not look for patterns? I propose that the phenomena should be viewed as one part of a group. This enables cross reference of facts and fiction surrounding such occurrences. And yes it is important to cross reference fiction since there is a possibility that the work is a direct result from exposure to such phenomena. Then why not explore fiction since it could be key to tracking?

A second step is to standardize the investigation. I, as well as many of you, have seen supposed investigators of the paranormal that are nothing more that bumbling pretenders. In my opinion the behavior of these people is abhorrent. Most seem incapable of properly documenting an event or taking testimony let alone providing rational observation. They carry out 'investigations' using the same methods in the same ways as others before them. Those researchers who successfully conduct investigations and thoroughly document events will surely agree that these pretenders muddy the public's opinion of paranormal investigation. For this reason standardization of procedure is a must. But even the good researchers from what I have seen are not looking for a pattern in the events they investigate. It is my sincere hope they will consider what I am proposing and realize the value of standardizing these investigations to create a usable data base for future analysis. On the next page I will give the protocol I believe should be followed when conducting an investigation. If you investigate a location or experience an anomaly it will not be difficult to create an information file that could be useful not only to you but to others. |
